Using different kinds of goldfish crackers, have your kiddo sort them by color and determine which color has the most and least fishes. Once they’re done it’s time for the extra fun part: being able to eat your fishies!

Food allergies? If your kiddo is allergic to goldfish crackers or you can’t find multicolored goldfish, no sweat! Switch it up with some fruit instead — an equally tasty math snack!

Take it to go!  Want to do this activity but don’t have access to goldfish crackers? Use the great outdoors instead! Have your kiddo find colorful leaves, rocks or flowers from outside and sort them based on their colors using!

️ No Printer? No problem! If you don’t have access to a printer you can recreate our printable with some markers. Super easy and the kids can color the circles themselves!

More ideas

️ For older preschoolers:  Sorting by color may be easy for older kiddos. Have them first sort the goldfish by colors and then create a bar graph outlining the groups of goldfish from most goldfish to least amount of goldfish.

️ For younger toddlers: This is a great opportunity for younger kiddos to practice their fine motor skills as well as color sorting skills! Encourage them to use their pincer grasper (thumb and first finger) to pick up the goldfish rather than their palm or sliding them around the paper to engage those tiny muscles!
