Iowa Early Learning Standards

Framework

Location: Iowa, US

Authors: Iowa Department of Education

Created in 2006, and revised in 2012, the Iowa Early Learning Standards work as a guideline for the behaviours and skills of children from birth to five years of age. The Iowa Early Learning Standards were created to compliment the values and beliefs held in the state of Iowa. The Iowa Early Learning Standards allow for a standardized framework to assist with decision making amongst educators. The standards aim to help inform all involved in the education and development of children of expectation of children at certain ages as well as promoting physical as well as mental development and health.

Of note, the standards are not to be used as an evaluation tool. Children grow and develop at different rates and should not be excluded from programs they may be eligible for due to an evaluation guided by the standards.
