Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards is designed to work with public, preschool, Head Start, child care, nurseries as well as homes visiting and specialised service centers. The main goal of the standards is to increased collaboration and consistency amongst all those who influence the learning and development of young children from birth through eight years of age.

Maine’s Early Learning and Development Standards aims to promote values and perspectives as well as offering recommended practices to those in the field of early childcare across the state of Maine. The standards provide guidance in terms of creating inclusive environments, curriculums, development, as well as engagement with families. The standards allow for teachers to accommodate the unique needs of children based off their observations of development.
