HiMama FAQ

Are you a parent?

Childcare Centers

This HiMama thing sounds great, but can I afford to get on board?
You can't afford not to! For most programs, the savings on printing costs alone pay for both HiMama and tablets. You will experience significant time savings with classroom documentation and parent communications, and occupancy rates will improve with this unique offering. But don't trust us, see what HiMama child care programs and HiMama parents say!
What do I need to get started with HiMama?
All you need is a wireless internet connection and a tablet for each room. We'll take care of the rest!
Does HiMama provide customer support?
Yes! Not only do we provide support, but we provide AMAZING customer service. When you join HiMama you become part of our community, which means we take care of you. Contact us and we'll be happy to chat with you!
What if my families have questions about HiMama?
Families are super important to you and they're super important to HiMama. That's why they get the same golden treatment that you get. And we're not just talking about parents and guardians. We'll help Aunt Margaret and Grandma Smith too!
What types of hardware does the HiMama program work on?
HiMama works on all tablets, your home or office computer or laptop, as well as your smartphone. This means you can access it anytime, anywhere and at a price that works for you. We currently have programs using HiMama on Android, iOS (iPad), Kindle and BlackBerry.
What tablets do you recommend?
We recommend the following tablets that get good reviews from consumers and technology experts: ASUS MeMO Pad (Retail Price ~$125 to $170), Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (Retail Price ~$120 to $130), and Galaxy Nexus 7 (2013 model) (Retail Price ~$175 to $210). Read our blog post on choosing the right tablet for your child care and early learning programs to learn more.
Are my staff going to spend more time on HiMama and less time with the children?
In our extensive research, this was a common concern, which is why we designed the solution to be very quick for use in the child care environment. Child care and early learning programs that use HiMama tell us over and over again how much time they save using HiMama. They tell us it is unequivocally faster, allowing them to spend more time with the children in their programs. Still not convinced? See what Directors and Early Childhood Educators say about HiMama.
Can you import my data from another system that we use?
Yes. If you're using administrative software, we can import your data into HiMama. Just ask one of our Community Advisors about this.
As a director or supervisor, can I see what my staff are doing on HiMama?
Yes. You can access all of your classrooms from any device to see what is happening in real-time.
We have multiple sites. Can I see what's happening across all my locations?
Yes. HiMama is designed to be used on a regional and national level, so that central operations directors can stay abreast of activities across multiple locations with a single login.
Will HiMama replace the paper daily sheets I provide to my parents?
Yes. For your younger age groups you can record activities such as sleep times, fluid and food intake, toileting and diapering, all of which will be summarized in a daily report for parents.
Can I document developmental observations for my emergent curriculum programs?
Yes. HiMama contains learning domains, skills and indicators that you can quickly and easily associate with a developmental observation made with a photo or video. For example, we have Montessori programs that use proprietary Montessori frameworks and many of our programs in Ontario use the ELECT / OELF Continuum of Development. The framework is customizable to fit the needs of your program.
Where is data stored and is it secure?

How is HiMama different from webcams?
Some of the many ways in which HiMama is different from webcams is that information provided to parents is specific to their child, you control the information provided to parents to educate them as opposed to simply observing, it makes existing documentation practices more efficient, and it provides you with digital records to replace paper records. Read this blog post on child care webcams to learn more.

How can I send my child's daycare provider a message?
Every child has their own unique @himama.com email address which you can find on their profile when you are logged into HiMama. If you send an email to this address, it will go directly to their daycare provider.
How do I add a photo or video?
When on the website, simply select ‘Add an Activity’ at the top of the page. In addition to uploading your picture or photo, don’t forget to add a title and description.
OR download our mobile app and add on the go! (currently available for iPhone & Android)
Can I add an activity without a photo or video?
Sure, why not! Maybe your child said something funny or did something really cute that you didn’t catch on camera. These are memories that you’ll want to remember, with or without a photo or video!
What’s the Journal?
The Journal is a log of activities that have been added to your child’s HiMama account. Activities are sorted based on when they happened so that you’ll never forget what day your child said their first word or how tall they were when they were 2 years old.
What’s the difference between the Journal and Headlines?
The Journal is a log of activities associated with a specific child. The Headlines is a log of activities associated with all the children for which you are part of the Crew.
What's the "Crew"?
The Crew is the close group of friends and family that you want to share updates with. This might include grandparents, aunts and uncles, or close friends, and might include those that aren’t living close enough to see your child as much as they’d like.
Note that the Crew can also share activities of your child by posting to their HiMama account, but only if you approve what they’ve shared with you or given them auto-post privileges.
How do I add people to the Crew?
Log in to your HiMama account and go to the ‘ Crew’ screen. Start adding! Each person you add will automatically receive an email from us inviting them to join HiMama and participate in activity sharing of your child.
Do I have to share everything with the Crew?
Nope. Some moments just aren’t meant to be shared with everyone. Maybe you want to keep a very special moment just between you and your spouse, or maybe you want to keep a log of your child’s medical-related activities. Just mark these as ‘Private’ and only Crew Members with special privileges that you set will be allowed to see these.
How do I remove people from the Crew?
Log in to your HiMama account and go to the ‘ Crew’ screen. Find the person that you would like to remove from the Crew and under ‘Actions’ select ‘Edit’. On the Edit Crew Member screen, simply check the option for ‘Remove User’ and submit.
Who can add and remove people from the Crew?
Only account ‘Owners’ can add family and friends to a child’s Crew. If you want to know who’s an Owner on your child’s account, just go to the ‘ Crew’ screen and look for the checkmark under Owner.
What does it mean when I make an activity ‘Private’?
When an activity is marked as ‘Private’ only those members of the Crew that you have given 'Private' access to will be able to see these activities. They will be identified on your child’s Journal with a lock icon.
What’s with the @himama.com email address on my child’s profile?
If your childcare provider subscribes to HiMama, you can send them a direct message by sending an email to this address.
How do I give someone auto-posting privileges?
You can give someone on the Crew auto-posting privileges via the ‘ Crew’ screen. Find the person that you would like to give auto-post privileges to and under ‘Actions’ select ‘Edit’. On the Edit Crew Member screen, simply check the option for ‘Auto post’ and submit.
Can I ‘Like’ an activity?
If you are an Owner on an account you can mark an activity as a ‘Favorite’. Favorite activities are marked on the Journal with a star.
Can I comment on an activity?
Yes! Simply select an activity from the Journal or Headlines and enter your comment underneath the activity. Activities that have been commented on are identified in the Journal with a comment bubble. If your childcare provider subscribes to HiMama and they have added the activity, then your comment will also go to them.

We take privacy seriously and will never share any photos or make them public without your explicit consent.

Yup! If someone adds an activity who does not have auto-post privileges we’ll email you to ask if you’d like to add this activity to the Journal and/or add the individual to the Crew.
Can I add more than one child to my HiMama account?
You sure can! Just go to the ‘Manage Kids’ screen and select ‘Add Kid’. They’ll get their own email address and we’ll create a Journal just for them so they don’t feel left out.
How can I download my child's photos from HiMama?

Clicking this icon will start an image download (in modern browsers such as Chrome & Safari), or open just the photo for you to save manually (by right clicking on the photo and selecting "Save as..."). Currently it isn't possible to download photos from the HiMama Parent App.
Please note; you cannot currently download more than one photo at a time.
